Dr. Flores earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Forensic Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Her special areas of focus include male trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She has dedicated most of her career to working directly with the Latina/o population. Dr. Flores is currently the clinic director at the Male Trauma Institute, providing direct services in English and Spanish.
Captain Ann Young is a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department who retired in 2016 after a 35-year career. She was the first African American woman to be promoted to the rank of Captain in the history of the LAPD. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Captain Young is a graduate of the FBI National Academy of Law Enforcement in Quantico, Virginia, and is also a graduate of the West Point Leadership Program and Supervisory Leadership Institute.
Training Objectives:
● Strengthen participants understanding of trauma as it relates to male youth survivors.
● Gain an understanding of law enforcement procedures and perspective concerning youth.
● Increase understanding of clinical and legal implications to Latina/o male survivors.
● Gain three tools to assist clinicians working with male survivor youth.
● Understand how personal emotional regulation intersects with personal experiences (trauma experiences, legal history interaction, and cultural background).
● Identify three ways a youth's history can impact treatment interactions with different professionals.
● Gain three tools to assist in relationship building with youth about clinical/legal system care history.
● Identify three challenges to investigations involving children in the system.
